Early Years

1948 William Rory Gallagher born to Monica & Daniel Gallagher at Rock Hospital, East Port, Ballyshannon, Ireland, on March 2nd.

1949 After moving to Derry, Rory's brother Donal is born on August 9th.

1954 Rory builds guitars out of school rulers & elastic bands and listens to US-Forces network radio, where he pick up his love for Blues-music.

1956 After moving to Cork, Rory is given a plastic ukulele by his parents.

1957 Rory gets his first acoustic guitar and begins to teach himself to play. He gets his first musical experiences with his friends and brother Donal.

1958/1959 Rory starts playing amateur shows in the local Parish centres & school halls.

1960 Rory Wins first prize in a talent competition at Cork City Hall. This year he also gets his first electric "Rosette, solid seven" guitars.

1961 Rory enters a talent show at Cork's North Monastery School and plays his first showband at Cork's Boat Club. He also plays various dates in Blackrock.

1962 Plays various dates in Cork.

1963 Rory buys his legendary used Fender Strat for 100 Irish P, from Crowley's Music Centre In Cork (first owner: Jim Conlon, Royal Showband).

1965 Various stints supporting Everly Brothers, The Animals & The Byrds, a Six-week stay On the US-Airforce Base in Madrid-Torrejon, Spain, a three-week stay in Hamburg, Germany and various dates in London, England. There was also Rory's first TV appeaance on Ireland's "Pickin' The Pops". Rory also created his fisrt three-piece band this year, with Johnny Campbell on drums & Oliver Tobin on bass.
