On Thursday, 26th & Friday 27th January 1967, The Yardbirds performed with Roy Orbison, the Walker Brothers, Johnny Young and the Mixtures at Festival Hall, Melbourne. A live radio broadcast is made of one of Roy Orbison's performances at the Festival Hall during this tour. After the show a custom-made Gibson Les Paul loaned to Yardbirds guitarist Jimmy Page for the tour by Keith Richards is stolen, as well as a Fender guitar belonging to Mixtures guitarist Laurie Arthur.
Also on 27th January 1967, The Yardbirds performed at Channel 9, Melbourne, for an unknown television program. The Yardbirds played live to a small audience. This was a closed event, with few tickets issued. It took place in a small studio at Bendigo Street, Richmond, whilst the Walker Brothers mimed. Putnam recalls Page's use of the violin bow during the "impressive" performance.
Whilst in Melbourne the musicians stayed at the Southern Cross Hotel.
