The "First Rider Open Air Festival" a weekend open-air festival in Scheeßel was planned. 23 bands were scheduled, including:
The Byrds Iron Butterfly Quicksilver Messenger Service nectar Nite City Franz K Steppenwolf Klaus Schulze Eddie & The Hot Rods The Damned Fairport Convention Rory Gallagher Barclay James Harvest The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Ultimately only the following groups performed:
- Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers
- Van der Graaf generator
- Colosseum 2
- Camel
- Golden Earring
Due to event mismanagement, only these five bands performed. Golden Earring were the last to play after which riots broke out and the stage burnt down, causing damage of more than a million marks and putting the festival on hold for years.
