Dick Clark's Caravan was heavily booked throughout 1965 with more shows planned than ever before. They also featured something no other Caravan had offered - British acts. Although Clark was vocal about American concert promoters paying way too much money to British Invasion artists in 1964, even he had to knuckle under to the demand for British artists this year. Consequently, Clark made contract offers to a number of groups. The first to accept was the Zombies. However visa issues delayed their arrival so this unit began shows on April 15 and the Zombies didn't join for the first 10 shows. A week later a second unit hit the road with Herman's Hermits headlining. These two units criss-crossed the country and even shared one date.

The explosive success of Herman's Hermits in America coincided with their booking with the Caravan of Stars. This unit lacks some of the depth of other Caravans as the charts are heavily moving away from typical Dick Clark acts. This only emphasizes the singular popularity of the Hermits. The unit's success at the box office encourages Clark to book other British acts for his summer and winter Caravans.

Stones tour for this date and a billing dispute between the Stones and the Hermits result in a compromise where the Stones agree to take the stage long after the Caravan ends to create more of a separation in the minds of the audience. Peter Noone is a competitive sort and he has the Hermits do a long closing set that pushes the Stones up against Pennsylvania's curfew law, shortening their set.

The Summer Caravan was once again headlined by a British act, this time the duo Peter and Gordon. Their American success was so pronounced that they also signed to headline a tour in the Fall. This unit provided some interesting mixes of talent but the concept was beginning to run out of steam.

Peter and Gordon once again headline this Caravan unit, toruing for five weeks in August and September. Dick Clark had signed British talent Tom Jones and Van Morrison's Them for this unit but Them cancelled at the last minute. Instead, he turned to California folk-rock group the Turtles to replace them. The Turtles didn't join the Caravan until it had been on the road for a couple of weeks.

Winter Tour
The 1965 Winter Caravan featured another folk-rock band from California, the Byrds along with their label-mates Paul Revere and the Raiders. Very little positive has ever been mentioned about the Byrds tenure on the Caravan, with the possible exception of David Crosby contently playing John Coltrane on his tape player and influencing Roger McGuinn's lead guitar on the still-unfinished "Eight Miles High." This brought to an end of the most prolific year for the Caravans. The next year, Clark will begin promoting his new TV show with a road show starring many its performers.
